The Way It Is

Have you had a favorite song for 20 years. I have I was laying on Gingers bed in her first married apartment and Scott put his tape on for me to listen to why I rested from my flight from Pennsylvania. This is the song I heard. The music is stirring and always moves me to either action or tears. I have finished one of my dreams related to this song and that was to be a Social Worker the other is to one day play this song on the piano with the same skill and passion as Bruce Hornsby.

The Way It Is
Standing in line marking time--Waiting for the welfare dime'Cause they can't buy a job. The man in the silk suit hurries byAs he catches the poor old ladies' eyes, Just for fun he says "Get a job". That's just the way it isSome things will never change. That's just the way it is...

But don't you believe them.

They say hey little boy you can't goWhere the others go'Cause you don't look like they do. Said hey old man how can you stand To think that way. Did you really think about itBefore you made the rules. He said, SonThat's just the way it is Some things will never change. That's just the way it is....

But don't you believe them

Well they passed a law in '64To give those who ain't got a little moreBut it only goes so farBecause the law don't change another's mindWhen all it sees at the hiring timeIs the line on the color barThat's just the way it isSome things will never changeThat's just the way it is,thats just the way it is, it is,it is, it iseme song.

I really believe that we cannot afford to buy into the premise that things cant change. Amy's post today was just the spark for me to continue on with the thought. We never know the potential of a human being or the personal power we can have in anothers life. We might think our efforts are small and unnoticed but another great song said, I dont do these things to change the world but I do them so the world will never change me.

A great example of this came my way last week in a phone call. 4 years this lady held on to this article

And then she calls me. " Hi my name is Toni. Along time ago Iread this great story about an atractive young man. I wanted to send a donation then but I lost the article. Do you know where they are or how they are doing?" 4 years she believed she could make a difference. What a lesson . Toni sent the check to my house with it she sent a note. I hope Im not invading Scott and Amy's privacy. ( truth is Im not sure they have had any for 4 years) so here is the note.

Im so greatful that Toni Brough didnt say Oh well thats just the way it is. Im touched that Scotty has never said thats just the way it is. Im a believer and a lover of this principle.

I also want to leave a dedication to Scotty also by Bruce. Its called Walk in the sun . ( Dont watch the video just take the words for their literal interpretation) With much love Terri

Well there I go, crying before work.

How sweet of Toni. And you, Ter, for sharing.

I too really like that song. Reminds me of another favorite that Shawn used to sing for me on the guitar. Simon & Garfunkle's Sparrow.
Have a listen.
